PROJECT

Broadband and Civic Empowerment

This study aims to amplify civic connection and minimize digital inequity via an expanded civic curriculum to address the broadband gaps that most acutely impact the state’s marginalized and infrastructurally isolated populations. We have established partnerships with local civic organizations serving low income households—Housing Authority of Champaign County, Project Success of Vermillion County, Cunningham Township Supervisor’s Office—to develop a curriculum on topics online education, healthcare & wellness, tax preparation, housing and economic stability. The topics expand the understanding of the socio-technical inequities that persistently prevent diverse vulnerable populations from accessing information and resources in East Central Illinois.

Community Projects, Community Impacts

Community members came together to provide an exciting and energizing opportunity for families by providing them with access to internet connectivity and access to laptops and desktops for their household. This has allowed community families to close the digital gap for connectivity and access to technology devices.
